About the role

The City of Apache Junction is seeking a Parks Maintenance Specialist to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of city parks, trails, open spaces, and related facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain parks, trails, open spaces, and related facilities including playgrounds, ramadas, restrooms, sports fields, and landscaping.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles such as mowers, trimmers, tractors, loaders, and trucks.
  • Perform irrigation system maintenance, including repairs and adjustments to sprinkler heads, valves, and controllers.
  • Plant, prune, fertilize, and water trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf; apply pesticides and herbicides as needed.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair of park facilities, including painting, carpentry, concrete work, and minor electrical repairs.
  • Inspect parks and facilities for safety hazards and perform necessary repairs or report issues to supervision.
  • Assist with the setup and takedown of equipment for special events.
  • Perform litter control and general cleanup of parks and facilities.
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints in a professional manner.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One year of experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge of irrigation systems, landscaping techniques, and general maintenance practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, follow oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively with the public and coworkers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in pesticide application or irrigation system maintenance.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as loaders or backhoes.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.

Schedule
