AP2 Pickling Operator

About the role

This position is responsible for all operating functions of the AP2 Pickling unit. The operator must understand the AP1 Unit in total and utilize the equipment to meet quality and productivity goals as outlined in the quality system. All work instructions must be followed.

Responsibilities

• Check schedule of coils to ensure the correct coil is on the line.
• Receive communication from entry of coil number running and observe for any defects, correcting as necessary.
• Ensure the entire pickling section adheres to work instructions.
• Monitor coils in line for steering and defects, correcting as necessary.
• Ensure the Shot Blaster operates as per work instructions.
• Ensure all pickling parameters meet work instructions and quality standards.
• Start the coil to the Coiler Reel and insert interleaving paper as per work instructions.
• Take acid samples every three hours and make additions per work instructions.
• Contact Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator as necessary.
• Properly identify coils exiting the unit as per work instructions.
• Follow all prescribed safety rules.
• Perform housekeeping and maintenance work as assigned.
• Participate in relevant continuous improvement programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of High School Degree or Equivalent (GED).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to learn, adapt, and retain information.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Physical demands

• Mobility within the plant.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands for technical tasks.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Visual ability with or without correction.
• Communication abilities.

Health and safety

• Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
• Follow company safety rules and report any absence or defect in protective equipment.
• Use required protective equipment: safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, respirators (where applicable), fire-retardant clothing, and acid PPE.
• Must be clean-shaven where respirators are required to comply with company and OSHA regulations.
• Report any contravention of safety policies to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead, or Supervisor.
• Follow all Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
• Follow all environmental policies and regulations.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
