About the Role

Come join the brightest minds at the LANSCE cutting-edge Particle Accelerator Facility. The AOT-IC Beam Diagnostics and Instrumentation team is seeking a recent graduate for a challenging postgraduate internship at the post-baccalaureate level. This is a full-time, year-round position for a period of one year.

We are seeking a proactive and technically strong engineer with a focus on digital/analog circuit design and systems thinking. A strong emphasis will be placed on maintaining existing diagnostic equipment including motorized devices, analog front-end circuitry, and camera equipment. As a post-Bachelor's student, you will be provided with a mentor, a challenging project, and an opportunity to present your work and progress to colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Work as a member of a project team.
  • Maintain existing diagnostic equipment, including motorized devices, analog front-end circuitry, and camera equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to self-teach and work independently.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the engineering project lifecycle.
  • Experience with analog circuit modeling tools (e.g., LTSpice, PSpice).
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting technically complex systems.

Qualifications

Position requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

Skills

  • Experience with robotics or mechatronics.
  • Understanding of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience developing firmware for embedded systems.
  • Electronic assembly testing and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using a Linux environment.
  • Experience with AI for accelerating productivity.
  • Programming experience with LabVIEW.
  • Experience with PCB design, layout, and testing.
  • Experience with EPICS (the Experimental Physics Industrial Control System).
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.

Schedule

This is a full-time, year-round position for a period of one year.

Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

No security clearance is required for this position, but selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
