AOT Fleet Service Technician III

About the role

The AOT Fleet Service Technician performs mechanical and electronic service work on automobiles, heavy trucks, construction equipment, snowplow, and spreader systems utilized by the Agency of Transportation (VTrans). Candidates should have diagnostic and research skills, the ability to plan and schedule work, set priorities, and respond to unanticipated service needs. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently are required. This position is eligible for a sign-on and retention bonus of up to $2000 for newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders in permanent maintenance worker or mechanic roles starting on or after July 13, 2025.

Environmental Factors

• Duties are typically performed in a district garage or motor shop, where normal motor shop hazards exist.
• Emergency road repairs may be required at any time of day and in inclement weather, presenting additional hazards.
• Must be physically able to use tools and lift parts and materials common to working on heavy vehicles and equipment.
• May be exposed to blood or airborne pathogens.
• Once a commercial driver's license is obtained, participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required.
• Overtime work may be required.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance and service of light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including installation and service of vehicle and equipment-related electronic components.
• Diagnose, research, plan, and prioritize work while responding to unanticipated service needs.
• Perform emergency road repairs as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years or more of experience in the maintenance and service of light, medium, and/or heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including experience with electronic components.
• OR one (1) year or more as a Fleet Technician II.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Must obtain a Commercial Learner's permit within 60 days of employment.
• Must obtain a Vermont State Inspection Mechanic Certification within 60 days of employment.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License, with air-brake certification and tanker endorsement, within six (6) months of employment.
• Must provide your own hand-tools.

Pay
