About the role

This position is a special education teacher position designed to support special education professional staffing needs across the district. The position is expected to instruct in pull out, direct instruction for academics as well as executive function needs, and social skills needs. The position will have case management duties.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in pull out, direct instruction for academics as well as executive function needs, and social skills needs.
  • Instruct using collaborative instructional practices with regular education staff.
  • Provide DI remedial instruction and effectively monitor (data collection) and adjust instruction aligned to data analysis / instruction based on best practice (i.e. Explicit Instruction).
  • Work with students who have various disabilities impacting their access and progress in the general education curriculum.
  • Develop and implement differentiated instruction, reading and math strategies, executive functioning skills, assessment, and applied behavior analysis.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and implement inclusive learning environments.
  • Manage student cases and ensure compliance with Ch 14 requirements.
  • Teach in a blended or online format as requested by administration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education (Special Education / Elementary Education).
  • Valid and active Pennsylvania Teaching Certifications in Special Education (PK-8 and/or PK-12).
  • Three to five years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience and working knowledge of collaborative instructional practices with regular education staff as well as Direct Instruction experience teaching replacement skills (Reading, Writing, Math, Executive Processing, and Social Emotional Skills) to mastery.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic implications of various disabilities impacting students' access and progress in the general education curriculum.
  • Working knowledge and application of Ch 14 requirements.
  • Training in differentiating instruction, reading and math strategies, executive functioning, assessment, and applied behavior analysis.
  • Computer background in Windows.
  • Ability to interpret data for classroom/school improvement planning.

  • Strong interpersonal / collaborative skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and effective written communication.
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic implications of various disabilities impacting students' access and progress in the general education curriculum.
