About the role

Assist in conducting intensified learning experiences for students in the assigned area and relieve certified teachers of various primarily non-instructional tasks. Support teachers and students in achieving program objectives, maintain discipline in the teacher’s absence, and provide tutoring to reinforce learning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up on learning activities
  • Assist students with daily work and finding appropriate activities for homework
  • Review class activities and daily homework
  • Supervise class breakfast and lunch activities
  • Communicate with parents to provide updates on student progress, homework, and social behavior
  • Distribute informative letters to parents regarding their child’s progress
  • Assist in filing and organizing materials for record retention and distribution
  • Maintain student records, attendance, and files
  • Perform all other assigned tasks and duties
  • Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required

Work Environment

The noise level is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. Remote work is not an option; regular and punctual on-site attendance is essential.

Requirements

  • Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S. equivalency)
  • One of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or passing an academic assessment
  • Paraprofessional certificate from the State Board of Certification
  • One year of experience working with children
  • General knowledge of child growth, development, and behavior characteristics
  • Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups
  • Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Initiative and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
  • Willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession

Pay

  • Minimum Salary: $29,528.00
  • Median Salary: $36,900.00
