About This Position

The Planning and Development Department (PDD) is a city department of over 500 employees across five main Divisions: Business & Strategy, Planning, Historic Preservation, Plan Review, and Inspections. PDD guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows, and needs arise. The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances.

Individuals that do not meet the minimum requirements below for the Structural Inspector II *Ind/PR may qualify for the opportunity to underfill at the Structural Inspector II. Candidates at both levels should apply for this recruitment.

PAY

  • Structural Inspector II*Ind/PR Pay Range and Hiring Range: $39.45 to $52.87 per hour.
  • Structural Inspector II Pay Range: $35.78 to $47.95 per hour.
  • Hiring Range: $35.78 to $43.49 per hour.
  • Pay Range Explanation: Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Structural Inspector II*Ind/PR: Two years of experience inspecting the construction of commercial and multi-story residential building projects to enforce Phoenix Construction Codes. Two years at the level of Structural Inspector I.
  • Structural Inspector II: Two years of experience inspecting the construction of commercial and multi-story residential building projects to enforce Phoenix Construction Codes. Two years at the level of Structural Inspector I.
  • By the end of probation, must obtain TWO certifications: ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner (21), ICC Commercial Building Inspector (B2).
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience as an Inspector or Plan Reviewer of commercial, industrial, or high-rise construction.
  • Two or more years of experience in code compliance for a jurisdiction responsible for code enforcement.
  • Three or more years of experience as a skilled journey level tradesman or construction superintendent.
