About the role
Cares for animals and cleans facilities used in experimental and breeding colonies under the supervision of Comparative Medicine Management and/or staff veterinarians.
Responsibilities
- Provides daily husbandry of laboratory animals, including observation, handling and restraint, feeding and watering, changing cages/racks, and sanitizing animal quarters and equipment for multiple species.
- Operates and/or uses supplies and equipment necessary to perform the husbandry duties.
- Maintains cleanliness of the cage wash area, warehouse, diet kitchen and any animal equipment storage areas.
- Performs daily record keeping for animals and room environments in accordance with LBRI quality assurance standards and regulations.
- Works Sunday through Thursday with Friday and Saturday off. Work hours are 6:00am to 2:30pm.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or one year of demonstrated work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
- Professional-level communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Available to work scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Work in laboratory and vivarium/animal housing environments.
- Frequently stand, sit, walk, kneel, crawl, reach/work overhead, frequently lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds, perform repetitive tasks, and perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator.
- Work in close proximity to research animals and may be required to work in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.
Pay
Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
Schedule
Sunday through Thursday with Friday and Saturday off. Work hours are 6:00am to 2:30pm.
