Animal Care Technician I

About the role

The Animal Care Technician I is an intermediate-level position that builds skills in providing husbandry and care to a variety of laboratory animals. This role works under supervision until deemed proficient by the supervisor. Employees may be required to work with, take specific precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. The position requires working weekend, holiday, and emergency schedules and is considered essential personnel.

Responsibilities

• Provide husbandry and care to a variety of laboratory animals.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year of animal husbandry or previous animal care experience.

Special Requirements

• Ability to complete and pass the required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program annually (for incumbents with contact or exposure to animals or animal tissues).
• Must pass a background check, occupational health screening, and (if applicable) drug screening as a condition of employment. Screenings occur after a conditional employment offer is extended.
