Animal Care Lead Technician

About the role

To perform a variety of specialized clerical duties in the maintenance of Police Department records, reports and cases; to process various police reports and enter data into computerized records management systems; to research, review and amend documents; and to provide accurate and current information to law enforcement staff and the public.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process police reports according to established guidelines;
• Receive, log, copy and maintain warrants, information sheets and case files;
• Prepare records for microfiche, microfilm and index cards as appropriate.

Requirements

• Maintain a variety of records, files and logs of criminal histories, warrants, subpoenas, citations, and related law enforcement information;
• Time stamp and file all incoming police reports, cases and documentation;
• Screen and process accident and offense reports;
• Copy and disseminate reports to appropriate staff;
• Conduct specialized research;
• Aid various law enforcement staff in locating criminal histories and other needed information;
• Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner;
• Type and process a variety of correspondence, reports, forms and confidential documents from drafts, notes or brief instructions;
• Proof read materials for accuracy, completeness and compliance with departmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Two years of increasingly responsible paid clerical support experience;
• Equivalent to the graduation of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED certificate).

Skills

• Principles and practices of police report preparation;
• Principles and practices of record keeping;
• Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers;
• Principles and practices of data entry;
• Applicable rules and regulations governing the release of law enforcement records;
• Use and application of basic law enforcement terminology;
• Methods and techniques of dealing with the public;
• English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
