Position Summary/Purpose
The Animal Shelter Attendant supports the Director of the Animal Shelter by maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of animal enclosures and common areas. This role ensures the facility remains clean, safe, and welcoming for animals, staff, and visitors.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of kennels, cat rooms, and critter habitats.
- Disinfect all types of animal enclosures, including kennels and cages, according to established protocols.
- Fill food and water buckets as scheduled.
- Wash dishes, do laundry, and ensure supplies are properly stored.
- Clean and maintain outdoor play areas, including removal of feces and debris.
- Sanitize and clean cat rooms, litter boxes, and associated equipment.
- Handle and clean enclosures for small animals and critters.
- Absorb and assist with general shelter upkeep and perform other related duties as assigned.
Other Functions
- Answer phone calls and provide friendly, professional assistance to visitors and adopters.
- Absorb and assist with front-desk tasks as needed.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Education, Training and Experience: Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
- Knowledge, Ability and Skills: Genuine compassion for and interest in the well-being of animals. Basic understanding of animal care and sanitation. Ability to follow directions and work independently with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately. Good communication and customer service skills.
