About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital - Charlestown, MA is seeking a compassionate and experienced Veterinary Technician to work alongside our board-certified Anesthesiologist.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
  • Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
  • Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
  • Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
  • Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
  • Comfortable with medical math.
  • Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery).
  • Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
  • Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
  • Maintain patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

Requirements

  • Experience in veterinary medicine.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia protocols.
  • Ability to perform physical exams and monitor vital signs.
  • Basic understanding of medical math.
  • Comfortable with intravenous catheter placement and endotracheal intubation.
  • Ability to operate various medical equipment.

Qualifications

  • VTS credentialing is preferred but not required.
  • Compensation is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.
  • Candidates with VTS credentialing may be eligible for higher compensation based on experience.

Skills

  • Advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
  • Medical math proficiency.
  • Ability to manage patient care throughout the entire procedure.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Pay

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Weekdays, 4x10 hour shifts, some on-call expectations.
