Summary
The anesthesia technician is responsible for a variety of duties and responsibilities that are vital to the efficient function of the anesthesia department. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Cleaning and restocking standardized anesthesia carts for use in the operating rooms.
- Cleaning and restocking the non-pharmacological sections of the difficult airway cart, the emergency crash carts and the malignant hyperthermia cart and other associated pediatric anesthesia equipment.
- The setup and turnover of age-specific anesthesia-related supplies and equipment between surgery cases.
- Appropriate cleaning and/or sterilization of reusable equipment.
- Restocking of drug trays in the workroom cabinet.
- Closing down the anesthesia related equipment in the operating rooms at the end of the daily case load.
- Preparation of intravenous fluids with appropriate administration setup.
- Preparation of equipment for transporting patients with invasive and non-invasive monitoring.
- Maintain knowledge of all anesthesia related supplies and equipment and their location.
- The entering of anesthesia patient charges into the current computer system for patient billing purposes.
- Ongoing knowledge of the current par levels of equipment and supplies within the department.
- Ordering and restocking of equipment and supplies into the department.
- General knowledge of the costs of supplies and equipment to assist the director with the budgeting process.
