Anesthesia Focused Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Perform pre‑surgical physical exams with the DVM, accurately measuring heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membrane color, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort; recognize abnormal vitals and alert the doctor.
• Set up and operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps, troubleshoot errors, and aseptically connect and disconnect patients from IV fluids.
• Administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload.
• Assist with additional veterinary assistant duties as needed, with a primary focus on surgery.

Schedule

Typically supports surgery 4 (10‑hour shifts) or surgery 5 (8‑hour shifts) a week, with occasional duties outside of surgery as required.

Pay

Hourly rate range: $18.40 – $23.51, determined by experience, skill level, education, location, and applicable minimum wage laws.
