About the role
We are seeking talented Android Engineers to join our dynamic teams at Whatnot. This role offers the opportunity to work on either product experiences or mobile infrastructure, contributing to the development of innovative Android applications that enhance user engagement and operational efficiency.
On our product teams, you will focus on creating intuitive, high-quality mobile experiences that connect buyers and sellers, influencing how users discover, buy, and sell on our platform. Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and fellow mobile developers, you will help define goals, scope features, and implement technical solutions that address customer needs.
Alternatively, you can join our App Platform team, where your focus will be on building the underlying infrastructure that powers all Android experiences across Whatnot. This includes developing developer tooling, optimizing app architecture, and ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability for millions of users.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 4+ years of professional experience developing and deploying high-quality Android applications
- Proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for building modern Android user interfaces
- Strong understanding of reactive programming using Kotlin Coroutines and Flows
- Experience with architectural patterns such as MVI or MVVM
- Deep commitment to product quality, performance, and user experience
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including product, design, and backend engineers
- Experience using data-driven decision-making tools such as SQL, Snowflake, and A/B testing
- Excellent communication skills and ability to navigate fast-paced, ambiguous environments
- Growth mindset with a willingness to take ownership from concept to launch and mentor others
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain high-quality Android features and systems using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
- Collaborate with product, design, backend, and mobile engineering teams to define goals, scope, and technical trade-offs
- Contribute to the evolution of shared mobile infrastructure, architecture, and best practices across Whatnot
- Build performant, reliable, and scalable applications that deliver an exceptional user experience
- Participate in code reviews, documentation, and technical discussions to uphold engineering standards
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to app performance, reliability, and scalability
- Stay updated with the latest Android development trends and incorporate best practices into the team
- Support and mentor junior team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement
