Responsibilities
- Responsible for coordinating the operations of the gross anatomy and histology labs.
- Maintains lab specimens and cadavers, performing daily inspections to control mold, excessive drying, and other detrimental environmental conditions.
- Maintains lab and common areas, equipment, and instruments in a clean, organized, and safe condition, including daily and end-of-semester cleaning.
- Performs general maintenance of gross dissection laboratory cadavers, skeletons, specimens, and equipment.
- Observes safety precautions and wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
- Fulfills all mandatory training requirements.
- Assists with dissection of human cadavers for the gross anatomy courses offered to NSU MD, Optometry, Dental, and Allied Health students.
Requirements
- Must be self-motivated, proactive, punctual, and reliable.
- May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties; ability to perform acute repetitive motions during shift.
- May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies; manual dexterity with dissection instruments and power tools; must be able to use sharp scalpels, dissection instruments, and operate hand/electric saws.
- Willingness to safely operate and utilize dissection instruments, sharp objects such as scalpels and power tools.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of human anatomy and dissection procedures to assist with the dissection and instruction of gross anatomy.
- Working knowledge of gross anatomy and histology laboratory processes, equipment, and facilities.
- Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures, willing to review anatomy materials, be able to follow written/oral instructions, and have appreciable hand-eye coordination.
- Safely operate and utilize dissection instruments, including sharp objects such as scalpels and power tools.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty and students in planning and coordinating labs.
- Good personal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team without direct supervision.
- Takes initiative, is organized, manages multiple priorities to meet deadline requirements.
- Maintains a positive, professional relationship with course directors, anatomy teaching faculty, and lab staff.
- Works cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a laboratory environment, anatomical dissection-centered.
