Our Underwriting and Portfolio Management organization partners with internal teams to underwrite new transactions and manage the existing loan portfolio. This role supports the REIF/Real Estate Fund Finance Group within Commercial Real Estate, balancing growth with scalable, well-managed business practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform due diligence on industry and company performance; synthesize research and begin to draw conclusions; may start to lead diligence calls
  • Perform thorough financial analysis and identify disparities, risks, and creative ways to mitigate risk
  • Prepare financial modeling inputs with little guidance; understand model mechanics and consider overrides or exceptions
  • Analyze appropriate structuring options considering collateral and borrower valuation
  • Write and prepare the majority of the credit approval document; provide meaningful contributions to internal meetings, including deal review and pipeline meetings
  • Coordinate and complete closing process requirements
  • Begin to shadow more senior underwriters on reviewing and negotiating legal documentation
  • Communicate with all external constituents; exhibit a sense of urgency toward meeting client requests
  • Prepare term sheets, commitment letters, and fee letters with guidance; develop a basic understanding of credit documents
  • Demonstrate ownership of a portfolio of existing customers with minimal guidance; may take on more complex or higher volume accounts
  • Complete annual reviews and both material and non-material modifications independently and on time
  • Monitor and determine upgrades or downgrades to risk ratings
  • Ensure compliance with credit policies and procedures for existing accounts
  • Respond to requests from all internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure portfolio data is accurate, timely, and complete to support strong quality and reporting capabilities
  • Escalate and resolve problem accounts in partnership with other teams and specialists
  • Build relationships across functions and business to foster collaboration between partner groups
  • Mentor and train rotational analysts and new hires
  • Participate in internal initiatives to ensure the business is well-managed and operates efficiently

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in credit underwriting, portfolio management, or commercial real estate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant fields
  • Previous experience in underwriting, portfolio, or asset management
  • Completed coursework or training in commercial real estate and credit risk management
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite

Pay

  • Cambridge, MA: $131,300 - $149,800
  • Charlotte, NC: $119,400 - $136,200
  • McLean, VA: $131,300 - $149,800

This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
