American Express Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) provides second-line policy, framework, oversight and control solutions to meet the Company’s legal, regulatory and risk management mandates in connection with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Terrorism Financing (CTF), Sanctions, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption. The GFCC portfolio covers all aspects of the Company’s financial crime risk management activities across all lines of business in the United States and global markets. GFCC is part of the broader Global Risk & Compliance organization.

The GFCC Client Risk Management Office within the GFCC Global AML Office leads efforts to assess, index, monitor, and mitigate client-introduced risk using data analytics to create dynamic Client Risk Ratings (CRR) for Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements. This ensures regulatory compliance across all lines of business and jurisdictions where American Express operates. The team also administers end-to-end centralized oversight of the Enhanced Due Diligence Program, including policy and procedure development, second-line oversight of Know Your Customer Refresh (KYC-R), and centralized governance, analytics, and monitoring.

About the role

The successful candidate will report to the CDD Governance Manager and work with first- and second-line teams across markets and lines of business to enhance Customer Due Diligence (CDD) processes and procedures. This role supports strategic initiatives such as Guardian, KYC Standards gap assessments, and regulatory requests. The individual should thrive in a collaborative, dynamic environment and have experience working on global initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support key governance-related projects aligned with Guardian and regulatory requests through strong stakeholder management and collaboration with business teams to meet time-bound objectives.
  • Manage global initiatives, including conducting gap assessments and implementing KYC standards, while driving alignment across markets and functions.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in the end-to-end CDD program, including the supporting technology.
  • Review and assess existing KYC policies, procedures, and workflows against internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
  • Define timelines, owners, and success metrics for remediation activities and track them to closure.
  • Support audit and regulatory exam preparedness by providing evidence of assessments, action plans, and remediation efforts.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory expectations and proactively assess their impact on KYC programs.
  • Stay updated on evolving regulations and industry standards.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of proven experience in program governance, project management, product management, strategy development, or implementation.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in BSA-AML, financial crimes compliance, government agency/regulator roles, general compliance, risk management, or audit.
  • Ability to assess and synthesize insights from large amounts of information to identify strategic opportunities and drive implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to develop impactful presentations for senior leadership and regulators.
  • Familiarity with KYC operations, customer lifecycle management, and screening technologies is a plus.
  • Strong management, collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong decision-making skills, adaptability, and the ability to work independently or within a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States (visa sponsorship will not be provided).
