Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare to assist in crisis situations.
  • Follow CPI protocols for verbal de-escalation and restraint.
  • Leave disciplinary actions to the AN teachers, including phone calls to parents.
  • Communications about students should go through AN teachers.
  • Technology and devices should be turned off at the end of the day.
  • Enter anecdotal notes at the end of the day.
  • Escort students to restrooms, specials, and lunch.
  • Support students during recess.
  • Report any concerns to the AN teacher.
  • Familiarize and follow Behavior Continuums for each student.
  • Carry out data collection as requested.
  • Do not enter or exit AN classrooms without clearance.
  • Limit unnecessary interruptions and conversations.

Primary Duties

  • Support classroom instruction and classroom management under teacher direction.
  • Aid in classroom instruction and classroom management.
  • Assist in covering classes when the teacher is occupied.
  • Enforce classroom rules and expectations.
  • Supervise students at all times.
  • Proctor tests.
  • Organize and prepare instructional materials.
  • Conduct small group and individual instruction.
  • Monitor student progress and report to relevant parties.

Additional Duties

  • Administer medical support for children with special health care needs.
  • Adapt classroom work under teacher or special service provider/case manager direction.
  • Implement social and daily living skills plans under case manager direction.
  • Implement instructional programs under teacher direction.
  • Maintain supervision of students in various areas.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of: Classroom management, Standards Based Education, children with special health care needs, age-appropriate activities, stages of child development, English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation, modern office procedures and methods, basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to perform clerical duties, manage time and multiple responsibilities, operate and use modern office equipment, communicate clearly and concisely, establish and maintain effective working relationships, remain calm and respond to student behaviors appropriately, effectively teach pro-social replacement behaviors.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Pass the paraprofessional test or possess an associate's degree in any field of study for high qualification.

  • Remain calm and respond to student behaviors appropriately.
  • Effective teaching skills to model and teach pro-social replacement behaviors.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift students/objects, position students' bodies as needed in and around the learning environment, and respond efficiently "in-the-moment" to unpredictable physical needs.
  • Ability to complete the Crisis Prevention Institute training.
  • Ability to complete additional training as requested.

Hourly Rate

$21.88 - 27.59

176 days/year (with paid personal time, paid vacation days, and paid time off for holidays and district non-work days such as during winter break and spring breaks)
