Ammunition Handler

This position supports ammunition operations for the 434th Field Artillery (FA) Brigade at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. An active SECRET clearance is required. U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency is mandatory; documentation must be provided.

About the role

The Ammunition Handler ensures the safe, secure, and efficient receipt, storage, transportation, issue, and accountability of ammunition in support of training operations. Duties are performed at the Ammunition Supply Point (ASP), Ammunition Holding Area (AHA), Building 6004 Ammunition Platoon Office, and designated field training areas.

Responsibilities

• Receive, load, unload, transport, store, account for, and turn in ammunition in accordance with ATP 4-35.1 and the 434th FA Brigade SOP.
• Break down and inspect all ammunition prior to delivery to training ranges to ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements.
• Operate military vehicles (10,000–26,000 lbs GVW) such as 5-ton trucks, Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTVs), and High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs).
• Conduct Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) and perform limited emergency repairs (e.g., changing tires, replacing fuses).
• Clean assigned vehicles and equipment using designated wash racks and pressure-washing facilities.
• Maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) endorsement.
• Perform duties in compliance with safety regulations, technical guidance, and unit SOPs.

Requirements

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in ammunition handling.
• Current CDL with HAZMAT endorsement; must meet DOD 4500.9-R licensing requirements.
• Completed, or ability to complete, Support Cadre Training Course (SCTC).
• Knowledge of AR 600-55 and USAFACFS Supplement 58-1.
• Ability to lift 80+ pounds (team lift required for heavier items).
• Physical ability to perform duties involving reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, and operating hand/foot controls.
• Ability to wear Kevlar while driving tactical vehicles (1 ¼-ton trucks and above).
• Must obtain military vehicle operator license within 90 days of hire.
• Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
