Ammonia Refrigeration Tech - PM Shift

About the role

As an Ammonia Refrigeration Technician, you will operate and maintain ammonia refrigeration equipment as well as all plant utilities, ensuring safe and efficient operations within our industrial food processing facility.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain ammonia refrigeration equipment, taking regular readings and making system adjustments to keep the system within safe operating parameters.
• Operate and maintain all plant utilities and production floor freezers, adjusting temperatures as needed for each product.
• Document daily logs of operations, repairs, potential problems, and communications with incoming shifts and production managers.
• Maintain certification in HAZMAT and PSM protocols.
• Follow all company rules, including GMPs, Safety, PPE, Lock Out-Tag Out, PSM, and regulations prescribed by the USDA and FDA.
• Perform electrical troubleshooting and read schematics.
• Plumb copper, plastic, tubing, and threaded pipe for repairs or new installations related to refrigeration or plant utilities.
• Write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
• Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
• Perform basic welding (arc, TIG, and MIG).
• Complete other related duties and special assignments as required or assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Formal ammonia refrigeration training by an accredited school; HVAC certification considered for entry-level apprentice positions.
• 3-5 years of ammonia refrigeration experience in an industrial (high-volume) food processing facility, particularly in frozen foods.
• Electrical troubleshooting and schematic reading experience.
• Mechanical trade skills and possession of required hand tools for mechanical maintenance tasks.
• Proficiency in math, including fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurements, practical algebra, and geometric construction; understanding of probability and statistical analysis is a plus.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to use in-house computer-based systems (e.g., Ross).
• Ability to interact professionally with team members, customers, and vendors.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Must pass an Ammonia Respirator Fit Test and SCBA for assisting purposes.
• Able to travel throughout production areas, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, and crawl in small spaces.
• Works in office and factory environments, often in frozen or hot conditions.
• Able to push, pull, and lift occasional heavy loads (up to 75 lbs.).
• Must work flexible hours based on operational needs.
• Occasionally works from heights, on roofs, or in confined spaces.

Pay

$30.00 per hour plus a $0.50 per hour shift differential. Individual base pay depends on work location, experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
