AmeriCorps STEM Specialist - Utah County Area

Utah County Area is hiring for 4 AmeriCorps STEM Specialists for the upcoming school year 2026-2027. Locations: Amelia Earhart Elementary, Park Elementary, Provost Elementary & Wasatch Elementary.

About the role

This position is an AmeriCorps national service opportunity, not a regular job. Members sign an agreement to complete a term of service, with a minimum of 450 service hours required. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on teaching experience, especially for those pursuing an education or STEM-related career.

Schedule

Approximately 12-16 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 2:45-6 PM, from mid-August 2026 to the end of May 2027.

Pay

A living allowance of $7,200 paid bi-weekly over the term of service, plus a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,956.35 upon successful completion. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans or cover current educational expenses at eligible institutions.

Responsibilities

• Provide STEM education:
  • Lead STEM lessons during the allocated weekly time.
  • Maintain records of lesson plans and track data for the number of students served.
  • Complete weekly timesheets and a monthly report.
  • Evaluate progress of youth served using surveys and rubrics.
• Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
  • Build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and teammates.
  • Promote and stimulate program participation.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Encourage members to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and provide constructive feedback to develop skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members.
• Program Development and Implementation:
  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for all members and visitors.
  • Monitor and evaluate program services and activities.
  • Oversee member safety, program quality, and appearance of the organization at all times.
• Supervision:
  • Supervise and ensure safety during indoor and outdoor activities (rain or shine).
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly organization staff meetings.
• Additional Responsibilities:
  • May participate in special programs and/or events.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and all grant-required training.

Requirements

• 18+ years of age.
• United States citizen or legal permanent resident.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Meet the requirements set by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
• Experience working with children.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
• Ability to work with schools and the general public.
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
• Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications may be required.
• Valid State Driver’s License.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to individuals with educational or work experience related to science, technology, engineering, math, teaching, and/or education.
