About the role

The AmeriCorps STEM Specialist will assist with hands-on, informal STEM education at the Boys & Girls Club. The schedule is approximately Monday through Friday from 2-6 PM from mid August 2026 to end of May 2027. This is a 12-16 hour per week commitment.

Schedule

The AmeriCorps STEM Specialist will serve as an AmeriCorps member. The schedule is approximately Monday through Friday from 2-6 PM from mid August 2026 to end of May 2027. The $4,800 stipend will be paid bi-weekly during the term of service. An Education Award of $1,565.08 will be awarded upon successful completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide STEM education by leading lessons, maintaining records, completing timesheets, and evaluating progress.
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes by building relationships, promoting participation, providing guidance, and encouraging diverse involvement.
  • Demonstrate leadership in ensuring conduct, safety, and development of members.
  • Implement and monitor programs, services, and activities for all members and visitors.
  • Supervise and ensure safety during activities, and maintain a productive work environment.

Additional Responsibilities

  • May participate in special programs and events.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and grant-required training.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • 21+ years of age.
  • United States citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in working with children.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Motivated youth and management of behavior problems.
  • Ability to work with the school and general public.
  • Plan and implement quality programs for youth.
  • Organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications may be required.
  • Valid State Driver's License.
  • Preference given to individuals with educational or work experience related to science, technology, engineering, math, teaching, and/or education.
