AmeriCorps STEM Specialist - Carbon County

Boys & Girls Clubs in Carbon County are hiring for 1 AmeriCorps STEM Specialist for the upcoming school year 2026-2027 at Bruin Point Elementary. This is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job, and is an especially terrific opportunity for someone pursuing an education or STEM-related career.

Schedule

The AmeriCorps STEM Specialist will spend approximately 12-16 hours each week assisting with hands-on, informal STEM education, working Monday through Friday from 2-6 PM, from mid-August 2026 to the end of May 2027.

You will be expected to complete a minimum of two 300 service hours throughout your term: one term from August to December 2026, and a second term from January to May 2027.

Responsibilities

Provide STEM education:

• Lead STEM lessons during the time allocated each week
• Maintain records of lesson plans and track data for the number of students served
• Complete weekly timesheets and a monthly report
• Evaluate progress of youth served using surveys and rubrics

Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:

• Build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and your teammates
• Promote and stimulate program participation
• Provide guidance and role modeling to members
• Ensure members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areas
• Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members

Program Development and Implementation:

• Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for all members and visitors
• Monitor and evaluate program services and activities
• Oversee member safety, program quality, and appearance of the organization at all times

Supervision:

• Supervise and ensure safety during indoor and outdoor activities (rain or shine)
• Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly organization staff meetings

Additional Responsibilities:

• May participate in special programs and/or events
• Participate in weekly staff meetings and all grant required training

Requirements & Qualifications

• 18+ years of age
• United States citizen or legal permanent resident
• High school diploma or GED
• Meet the requirements set by the Corporation for National and Community Service
• Experience in working with children
• Knowledge of youth development
• Motivated youth and manage behavior problems
• Ability to work with the school and general public
• Plan and implement quality programs for youth
• Organize and supervise members in a safe environment
• CPR and First Aid Certifications may be required
• Valid State Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference will be given to individuals with educational or work experience related to science, technology, engineering, math, teaching, and/or education

Pay & Benefits

This position provides a living allowance of $4,800 paid over each term of service. The $4,800 stipend will be split up and paid on a bi-weekly (every other week) basis during your term of service. You will not be paid hourly.

In addition, an Education Award of $1,565.08 will be awarded upon successful completion. The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit that can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions.
