About the role
Highlands Housing has served southeastern Appalachian Kentucky since 2007, helping nearly 300 families achieve homeownership through energy‑efficient new construction, owner‑occupied repairs, tenant rental assistance, and homebuyer education. The AmeriCorps Homeownership Specialist will support future homeowners and coordinate volunteers for construction and repair projects under the Director of Housing Services in Monticello, Kentucky. This is a 12‑month service position from September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2026 at 37.5 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Conduct community outreach to raise awareness of affordable housing programs and services.
- Assist clients with understanding and completing applications for homeownership programs.
- Support homebuyer education activities that prepare individuals and families for successful homeownership.
- Provide general information about the homebuying process and available housing resources.
- Assist clients with budgeting activities and homeownership readiness tasks under staff guidance.
- Connect individuals and families with appropriate community resources and service providers through referrals.
- Support partnerships with local organizations serving people experiencing housing insecurity.
- Promote homeownership programs via marketing materials, social media, repair projects, homebuyer education events, and community engagement.
- Collect, maintain, and report data on client participation, volunteer activities, and program outcomes.
- Provide administrative and follow-up support to clients and volunteers as assigned.
