AmeriCorps After School Youth Mentor - Napa

Part-time, 900-hour Member position over 10 months (September 2026 – June 2027). Daily schedule: Monday–Friday, 12 pm to 5:30 pm.

About the role

AmeriCorps EXL offers a meaningful opportunity to support students' academic growth and personal development while being part of a dedicated team making a lasting impact in Napa, California schools. We partner with schools to identify students who would benefit from a positive, adult role model. EXL Mentors lead Active Recess activities and provide targeted academic, enrichment, and social-emotional support.

Responsibilities

• Active Recess: Facilitate structured games and sports during the school day and after school, focusing on conflict resolution and positive student behaviors.
• Tutoring Services: Provide individualized and small-group academic support in reading, writing, and math; collaborate with teachers to reinforce classroom learning goals.
• Mentoring Services: Work with students needing additional support in skill development, relationship-building, and personal growth using provided curriculum and lesson plans.
• Expanded Learning & Enrichment Support: Serve as an enrichment leader in the after-school COOL School program, supporting a specific track such as:
  • Arts & Creative Expression
  • Sports & Athletics
  • STEAM & Hands-On Learning
  • Leadership & Social Emotional Learning
  • Outdoor Education and Recreation
  • Academic Enrichment

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age (17 with parental approval).
• Clear criminal background check (DOJ, FBI, and National Sex Offender Public Database).
• Current, clear TB (tuberculosis) test.
• High school diploma or GED by start date.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien (DACA recipients currently ineligible).
• Passion for education and working with youth of all backgrounds.
• Organized, responsible, flexible, motivated, and professional.
• Commitment to high safety standards and compliance with program policies.
• Ability to live within a reasonable commute distance from the assigned school site.

Schedule

• Monday–Friday, 12 pm to 5:30 pm (some evenings and weekends may be required for service events).

• Winter Break Intercession program is mandatory.
• Service hours occur in-person at the assigned school site; members are not expected to serve on days the school is closed.

Pay

Monthly living stipend of $1,700 (taxable).
