Ambulatory Surgical APP (Full Time)

About the role

We are seeking an Ambulatory Surgical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Plastics team, supporting Hand and General Plastic Surgery in an outpatient setting. This is a 1.0 FTE ambulatory clinical role with minimal OR responsibilities, no weekends, no holidays, and no call.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Care
  • Provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Works in collaboration with the attending supervising/collaborating physician(s) in accordance with state law and hospital regulations, hospital policy, protocols, and clinical pathways, providing autonomous team-based care where applicable.
  • Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, reviews/orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and radiologic results, and formulates and manages patient treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures, prescribes treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines, within scope of practice and professional competency standards.
  • May function as first or second assistant on operative cases, using fine motor skills and manual dexterity, provided scope and educational prerequisites are met.
  • Responds to emergency situations within YNHHS parameters.
• Patient Education & Psychosocial Support
  • Educates patients/families on care, treatment plans, potential side effects, and discharge plans in collaboration with the supervising/collaborating physician.
  • Provides psychosocial support to patients, family members, and significant others as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Information Management
  • Ensures appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Protects patient information from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
• Quality Management
  • Demonstrates high standards of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
  • Ensures compliance with patient-related healthcare regulatory requirements, standards, and recommendations.
• Professional Development
  • Engages in projects to maintain and advance professional competency.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for new house staff and provides service-specific orientation.
  • Demonstrates high reliability organizational behaviors, including reporting safety events and near misses.
  • Maintains all employee requirements determined by hospital policy.
  • May serve as a clinical preceptor for NP/PA students and other healthcare professionals, and mentor pre-PA/NP candidates.
  • Collaborates on research, quality assurance, performance improvement projects, and assists in forming clinical practice protocols.

Requirements

• Education: Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
• Experience: Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required. New graduates with strong relevant clinical training may be considered.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Hand Surgery
  • General Plastic Surgery experience
  • Ambulatory clinical experience
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Connecticut State Registered Nurse License and Connecticut State Nurse Practitioner License.
  • Board specialty certification, as appropriate for position profile.
  • ACLS/BLS Certified, when indicated for position profile.
  • DEA License.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on position and specialty (e.g., PALS for pediatric positions, NRP for neonatal care).
• APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and complete the Medical Staff credentialing process, including providing evidence of current competence and reference letters from physicians and practitioners.
