Ambulatory Surgical APP (Full Time)

About the role
We are seeking an Ambulatory Surgical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Plastics team, supporting Hand and General Plastic Surgery in an outpatient setting.
- 1.0 FTE
- Ambulatory clinical role with minimal OR responsibilities
- No weekends
- No holidays
- No call
Preferred qualifications include experience in Hand Surgery, General Plastic Surgery, or ambulatory clinical settings. New graduates with strong relevant clinical training may be considered. Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Works in collaboration with the attending supervising/collaborating physician(s) in accordance with state law and hospital regulations, hospital policy, protocols, and clinical pathways, providing autonomous team-based care.
- Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, reviews/orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and radiologic results, and formulates and manages patient treatment plans.
- Performs procedures, prescribes treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines, within scope of specialty or professional competency standards.
- May function as first or second assistant on operative cases, using fine motor skills and manual dexterity (within scope and job educational prerequisites).
- Responds to emergency situations within YNHHS parameters.
Patient Education & Psychosocial Support
- Educates patients/families on care and recommended or available resources, including admitting instructions, treatment plans, side effects of treatments/medications, and discharge plans.
- Provides psychosocial support to patients, family members, and significant others in a caring, ethical, and professional manner as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Information Management
- Ensures appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Protects information in all forms (computer-based, paper, film, voice, or other media) from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
Quality Management
- Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
- Ensures compliance with patient-related healthcare regulatory requirements, standards, and recommendations.
Professional Development
- Engages in projects to maintain and advance professional competency.
- Serves as a clinical resource for new house staff and provides service-specific orientation.
- Demonstrates high reliability organizational behaviors by reporting safety events and near misses.
- Maintains all employee requirements determined by hospital policy.
- May serve as a clinical preceptor for NP/PA students and other healthcare professionals, and mentor pre-PA/NP candidates.
- Collaborates on research, quality assurance, and performance improvement projects, and assists with the formation of clinical practice protocols.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
Experience
- Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required.
Licensure & Certification
- Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Connecticut State Registered Nurse License and Connecticut State Nurse Practitioner License.
- Board specialty certification, as appropriate for position profile.
- ACLS/BLS Certified, when indicated for position profile.
- DEA License.
- Additional licensure, certifications, and/or continuing education credits may be required based on position and area of specialty (e.g., PALS for pediatric positions, NRP for neonatal care).
APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and complete the Medical Staff credentialing process, including providing evidence of current competence to practice and obtaining appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners.
