Ambulatory Registered Nurse - Wound Care Center - FT - Day

About the role

Assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members.

Aims to provide care guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Provides case management to a group of specified patients providing specific assessments according to wound care clinical practice guidelines and policies and procedures, complete all required related documentation, including review of appropriate I-Heal reports and acts as patient advocate in delivery and coordination of patient care
• Formulates a prioritized and goal directed plan of care, which is based on patient’s presenting problems and projected outcomes
• Provides direct patient care as defined within the scope of the state’s nurse practice act
• Administers prescribed medications, infusions, and/or treatments in accordance with nursing standards
• Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients
• Evaluates the effectiveness of the health care process (self, systems, environment, and instrumentation) in meeting outcomes
• Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to provider
• Documents in patient and department records in a timely, accurate and concise manner according to department standards
• Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information
• Compiles tests and examination results
• Evaluates the patient’s progress towards achieving outcomes
• Practices effective problem identification and resolution as a method of sound decision making
• Greets patients and prepares them for provider examination
• Collects patient history information
• Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests
• Traits and refers incoming telephone calls
• Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions
• Participates in system wide/department patient care quality improvement activities as well as standards development
• Participates actively in clinical education activities, including orientation of new employees and teaching student nurses
• Participates in nursing research activities
• Participates in development and attainment of system wide/department hospital goals
• Traits and refers incoming telephone calls
• Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions
• Delegates tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and department activities in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act
• Adheres to staffing and scheduling practices
• Sets validation of knowledge base, skill level and decision making as necessary and assertively seeks guidance in areas of question

Requirements

• Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• 1 year Experience in a clinic setting
• Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution
• Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning
• Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution
• Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills
• Communicates effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods
• Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse - KSBN
• Multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas
• BLS RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department
