Ambulatory Registered Nurse - Infectious Disease - FT - Day

About the role

Infectious Disease nursing is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals who suffer from a wide variety of chronic and infectious diseases. Infectious Disease Nurses provide episodic and chronic nursing care to patients in the ambulatory and inpatient setting to include assessing patients, refilling medications per standing orders, evaluating the patient's understanding of their medication regime, and providing education and advocacy to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Collections pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting.
• Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential problems, and issues.
• Develops a collaborative plan encompassing strategies to achieve expected outcomes.
• Promotes infection prevention through use of standard precautions.
• Implements identified plan through coordination of care and employs strategies to promote health and wellness.
• Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes.
• Utilizes appropriate resources to plan, provide, and sustain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible, and used judiciously.
• Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and supports the effectiveness of professional relationships and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice.
• Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.
• Mentors nurses new to their role for the purpose of ensuring successful enculturation, orientation, competence, and emotional support.
• Supports students to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Commits to lifelong learning through critical thinking, self-reflection, and inquiry for personal growth and development.
• Demonstrates willingness to participate and lead nursing practice in process evolution the scope of the Stormont Vail Health professional practice model.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience in a clinic setting is preferred.
• Preferred Skills and Abilities:
  • Awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other.
  • Awareness and application of safety issues.
  • Awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning.
  • Management of situations to minimize risk to the patient and the institution.
  • Competency in selected psychomotor skills.
  • Effective communication using verbal, non-verbal, and written methods.
  • Mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration.
  • Application of concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Skills

• Registered Nurse - KSBN.
• Multi-state license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas.
• BLS RQI, CPR, or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.
