About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) position at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is 100% administrative/phone work, focusing on patient-facing tasks such as nursing assessments, developing and evaluating plans of care, and communicating with families and healthcare teams. The role is based on the main campus and involves shifts of 5 8-hour days or 4 10-hour days, with flexibility to work from home after 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Performs nursing assessments using various methods and area-specific tools.
  • Develops or individualizes existing plans of care and sets goals based on family needs.
  • Evaluates and documents changes to the plan of care.
  • Develops or individualizes teaching plans/protocols to meet patient and family learning needs.
  • Identifies patient preferences and needs, including motivational factors.
  • Evaluates and documents changes to the plan of care.
  • Performs nursing care according to procedures/protocols.
  • Anticipates and intervenes effectively in potential emergent situations.
  • Communicates with the family and multidisciplinary team to identify health care needs.
  • Communicates changes in patient status and coordinates referrals or consultations.
  • Keeps up-to-date in nursing practice by utilizing current literature and participating in quality initiatives.
  • Works cooperatively as a team member to achieve unit and hospital goals.
  • Identifies learning needs and seeks resources to advance nursing practice and achieve professional goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of RN practice experience.
  • Experience in ambulatory or Ophthalmology preferred.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Effective communication skills with patients/families, physicians, and hospital staff.

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients/families, physicians and hospital staff.
  • Knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required as part of the responsibilities of the role.

Skills

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to anticipate and intervene in emergent situations.
  • Knowledge of nursing protocols and practices.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $36.00-$59.40 hourly, with a 5% employer match on the 403(b) plan. Additional benefits include a generous PTO policy, paid holidays, and parental leave.
