Position reports directly to the Northwest VP, Regional CNE, Systems & Strategy. This role provides strategic leadership as the nursing and patient care executive responsible for all nursing and other designated patient care functions/services within, but not limited to: Ambulatory, Care Continuum, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, and Regional Advice Nurse Services (these areas are matrixed reporting and may be solid or dotted lines).

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for successful attainment of Magnet designation, re-designation(s), and advancement of Nursing Excellence.
  • Develops effective working relationships with key stakeholders and operational leaders.
  • Manages organizational relationships to build and maintain a climate of trust and inspire commitment to organizational goals.
  • Partners to provide seamless transition of patients across the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrates executive-level communication, presentation, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effectively communicates with internal and external constituents, including staff, colleagues, and physicians.
  • Produces and presents oral and written materials addressing nursing, healthcare, and organizational issues.
  • Acts as an advocate for ambulatory services to the community, improving public relations and marketing objectives.
  • Communicates and embeds the Kaiser Permanente Nursing Vision, Values, and Model within the culture.
  • Creates an environment that recognizes and values diversity, addressing the unique needs of a diverse workforce, patient population, and community.
  • Participates in the academic community through advisory and collaborative efforts.
  • Provides a supportive and stimulating learning environment for nursing students.
  • Manages conflict constructively and productively.
  • Assesses the current environment and establishes indicators of progress toward cultural competency.
  • Engages staff and others in decision-making processes.
  • Determines cost-effective and efficient levels of patient care in collaboration with medical facility leadership.
  • Participates in strategic planning, creating strategic plans, and collaborating on financial planning.
  • Accountable for the efficient delivery of all patient care services for KP members.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates cost-effective programs, policies, and procedures for high-quality nursing care.
  • Manages patient care processes to ensure optimal utilization management practices.
  • Establishes and controls budgets to meet short and long-range financial goals.
  • Monitors trends, external environment, and internal practices to adjust strategies as needed.
  • Prepares and reviews department operating and capital budgets based on volume and expense projections.
  • Monitors departmental expenses and takes action for adjustments and improvements.
  • Coordinates activities between departments to reduce duplication and increase efficiency.
  • Develops and implements quality and utilization standards for patient care services.
  • Utilizes systems for resource management in nursing, including patient acuity and staffing applications.
  • Achieves optimal patient care experience through focused customer service strategies.
  • Develops and implements recruitment and retention strategies for a stable workforce.
  • Creates a succession plan for nursing leadership.
  • Adapts to and motivates others to embrace change in response to business conditions.
  • Demonstrates competency in technology applications related to business and clinical functions.
  • Optimizes the electronic medical record system and uses data to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Ensures compliance with legal and ethical issues related to client data and confidentiality.
  • Guides the operational implementation of quality improvement initiatives using innovation and evidence-based practice.
  • Encourages innovation and creative solutions to issues or problems.
  • Solves problems from various perspectives and makes difficult decisions.
  • Achieves quality outcomes through problem identification, process improvement, and root cause analysis.
  • Implements the organization’s performance improvement program.
  • Ensures a professional development program addressing the needs of clinical and management staff.
  • Creates a structure to foster a learning environment for growth and development.
  • Coaches and mentors aspiring nurse leaders.
  • Supports compliance with Kaiser Permanente’s Principles of Responsibility and Service Quality Credo.

Requirements

  • Minimum ten (10) years of clinical nursing practice experience in an acute care and/or ambulatory outpatient setting.
  • Minimum five (5) years of operational leadership experience in an Ambulatory Care setting, Hospital system, or integrated care delivery system.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or health care relevant field required.
  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.
  • Certified in Executive Nursing Practice within 12 months of hire OR Nurse Executive Advanced Certificate within 12 months of hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (Washington) required at hire OR Compact License: Registered Nurse required at hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (Oregon) required at hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Magnet designated organization and/or experience leading an organization to Magnet status.
  • DNP or PhD in Nursing.

Pay

$229,500 - $286,875 / year. Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role and does not reflect the full value of the total rewards package. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.

Schedule

  • Full-time.
  • Monday through Friday, 08:00 AM - 05:00 PM.
  • Travel: Yes, 50% of the time.
  • Work Setting: Onsite. Worker location must align with Kaiser Permanente's Authorized States policy.
