Ambulatory Care Clinical Pharmacist - UVA Specialty Pharmacy (Hybrid)

This role is responsible for the administration, preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and other health products to ensure safe and effective patient care. Pharmacists collaborate with healthcare providers in various settings—including UVA hospitals, clinics, and research facilities—to optimize patient treatment plans, provide drug therapy consultations, offer medication counseling, and oversee the preparation and distribution of medications in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

This position will rotate between multiple clinics, allowing the pharmacist to learn and administer care across a variety of disease states. Individual contributors in this role are responsible for diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients, often through face-to-face interactions. The role may also involve designing and implementing clinical programs, policies, and services using specialized knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense medications and provide drug therapy consultations.
  • Ensure the safe and effective use of pharmaceuticals.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient treatment plans.
  • Offer medication counseling to patients.
  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of medications in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Rotate between multiple clinics to administer care across various disease states.
  • Design and implement clinical programs, policies, and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.
  • PGY-1 residency or equivalent clinical experience preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Repetitive motion, such as typing.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull less than 20 lbs.
  • Potential exposure to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $64.37 - $89.07 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and education.
