About the Role

These roles are responsible for the administration, preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and other health products to ensure safe and effective patient care. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work in various settings, including pharmacies, UVA hospitals, clinics, and research facilities. Responsibilities include dispensing medications, providing drug therapy consultations, and ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceuticals.

Pharmacists collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient treatment plans, offer medication counseling, and oversee the preparation and distribution of medications in compliance with legal and regulatory standards. This position will rotate between multiple clinics, learning and administering care throughout a variety of disease states.

Individual contributors with responsibility in a clinical discipline or specialty, typically involving diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients, including face-to-face interactions. May also spend time designing and implementing clinical programs, policies, and services using specialized knowledge and skills. Requires specialty license or certification acquired through advanced education, training, and/or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense medications and manage health products to ensure safe and effective patient care.
  • Provide drug therapy consultations and ensure the safe use of pharmaceuticals.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient treatment plans.
  • Offer medication counseling to patients.
  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of medications in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Rotate between multiple clinics, administering care across various disease states.
  • Design and implement clinical programs, policies, and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy (required).
  • Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire (required).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification (required).
  • PGY-1 residency or equivalent clinical experience (preferred).

Skills

  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull less than 20 lbs.
  • Basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and vocational/technical education.
  • Works under moderate supervision; handles routine problems but may require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures.
  • Communicates information requiring some explanation or interpretation.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Repetitive motion, such as typing.
  • May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $64.37 - $89.07 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
