Alumni Coordinator

About the role

The Alumni Coordinator serves as a key relationship-builder and ambassador for the College of Education by developing, strengthening, and sustaining meaningful connections with alumni, students, faculty, staff, donors, and community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support alumni engagement communication initiatives designed to strengthen alumni connection, participation, and affinity with the College of Education.
  • Aid in the creation and coordination of alumni-focused content including digital newsletters, email campaigns, donor stewardship messaging, alumni spotlights, event promotions, social media collaboration, and engagement materials.
  • Serve as a liaison and collaborative partner with university advancement and annual giving initiatives related to alumni outreach and engagement communications.
  • Support strategic communication efforts that promote alumni networking, mentoring, volunteer engagement, continuing education opportunities, and professional development initiatives.
  • Maintain and support accurate alumni records, contact information, engagement tracking, and participation data to strengthen outreach efforts and long-term relationship management.
  • Analyze engagement trends and assist in identifying opportunities to increase alumni participation and connectivity across programs and initiatives.
  • Cultivate, develop, and steward meaningful relationships with alumni across a broad range of backgrounds, professions, career stages, and geographic regions.
  • Recruit and support alumni volunteers for mentorship programs, speaking engagements, networking initiatives, advisory opportunities, student engagement activities, and college events.
  • Develop strategies to increase alumni involvement and strengthen connections between alumni, current students, faculty, and the broader college community.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to alumni to preserve institutional relationships, strengthen long-term engagement, and enhance continuity of institutional knowledge and community connection.
  • Identify and support opportunities for alumni leadership, advocacy, and volunteer participation in support of college initiatives and strategic priorities.
  • Partner with alumni leadership groups and advisory boards to support the development and achievement of strategic alumni engagement goals and initiatives.
  • Coordinate, plan, and facilitate alumni events and engagement activities including networking events, mentoring opportunities, reunions, continuing education initiatives, recognition programs, annual celebrations, tailgates, and special college events.
  • Support the development of innovative programming that fosters professional growth, career connection, lifelong learning, and community engagement among alumni.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure successful execution of alumni engagement initiatives and programs.
  • Assist with event logistics, communications, registration management, volunteer coordination, budgeting support, and post-event assessment activities.
  • Support donor stewardship initiatives by assisting with gratitude communications, alumni recognition efforts, engagement tracking, and relationship-building activities.
  • Cultivate a culture of philanthropy and alumni investment within the College of Education community.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of professional experience in alumni relations, higher education, advancement, communications, student engagement, event coordination, nonprofit engagement, community outreach, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Other Required Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships and foster meaningful engagement with varied populations and stakeholders; Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across multiple audiences and generations; Experience coordinating events, programs, outreach initiatives, or engagement activities with strong attention to detail and organizational effectiveness; Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also managing projects and responsibilities independently; Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; Commitment to customer service, relationship management, and creating welcoming experiences for alumni, students, donors, and community members; Demonstrated professionalism, initiative, adaptability, and sound judgment in a fast-paced and evolving environment; Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in higher education, alumni relations, advancement, nonprofit engagement, constituent relations, or donor engagement environments; Knowledge of alumni engagement strategies, volunteer management practices, donor stewardship principles, and relationship cultivation approaches; Experience supporting mentorship initiatives, networking programs, leadership engagement, or community-building activities; Demonstrated experience planning and executing events, programs, or engagement initiatives with multiple stakeholders; Strong digital fluency and comfort utilizing web-based systems, constituent relationship management platforms, event registration systems, collaboration tools, databases, and content management systems; Experience utilizing data and engagement metrics to support outreach, relationship-building, and program improvement efforts; Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends in support of alumni events and engagement activities.
