About the Role
As Support Staff at Alexandria’s House, you help create a safe, structured, and nurturing home for young mothers and their children. This maternity group home supports young parents who are building stability, parenting skills, and independent living capabilities. This role is centered on human connection, consistency, and mentorship. You’ll build trusting relationships with residents while maintaining clear professional boundaries—offering encouragement, guidance, and a steady presence through day-to-day challenges.
Support Staff use a positive youth development approach, helping residents practice life skills, daily routines, and healthy decision-making in a supportive environment. This is also a strong entry-level role for individuals interested in housing, family services, or nonprofit work, with opportunities to grow within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Create a welcoming, structured, and respectful home environment
- Build appropriate rapport with residents while maintaining professional boundaries
- Support daily routines such as meals, childcare support, chores, and schedules
- Coach residents through parenting skills, household responsibilities, and life skills
- Encourage participation in assigned activities and responsibilities
- Help plan and participate in group activities and special events
- Monitor the home to ensure safety, cleanliness, and stability
- Complete required documentation and service notes
- Work independently during assigned shifts while collaborating with the team
Requirements
This Role Is a strong fit for individuals who enjoy working with young parents and children, can build trust while maintaining clear, healthy boundaries, bring a calm, patient, and professional presence, and are comfortable providing structure and accountability.
Relevant experience may include childcare, early childhood education, or youth programs, customer service or hospitality roles with high responsibility, residential programs or group home settings, and community-based, family support, or human services work.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED/HSEC
- One (1) year experience working directly with children or two (2) years of post-secondary education
- Ability to pass Washington DCYF background check
- Strong communication and professionalism
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in emotionally complex situations
Skills and Certifications
Required Certifications (May be obtained at no cost within six months of hire) include CPR / First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens training, and Food Handler’s Permit.
Additional requirements include a TB test prior to employment (or recent negative result), Tdap and Influenza vaccinations (or current documentation).
Schedule
Part-time and full-time positions are available with multiple shift options, including:
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Swing Shift: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Night Shift: 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM
