Full-time position with benefits. Salary range: $53,764–$68,630/year.

About the Role

As an Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment Program Assistant in a New York State correctional facility, you will provide ongoing treatment services to inmates with substance use disorders. Responsibilities include developing treatment findings and conclusions based on admission and comprehensive evaluations, establishing substance use disorder diagnostic impressions, and creating and implementing person-centered treatment plans for each assigned inmate. You will continually evaluate and document inmate participation and progression toward treatment goals, ensuring successful addiction rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, screen, and orient inmates for treatment programs.
  • Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Coordinate educational and treatment services using various media.
  • Provide individual and group counseling focused on addiction recovery.
  • Develop continuing recovery plans for inmates.
  • Maintain all mandatory treatment records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with facility staff to deliver services across treatment modalities.

Requirements

Acceptable experience includes one of the following:

  • Three years of qualifying professional or paraprofessional experience in an alcohol and/or substance abuse treatment program (e.g., hospital, correctional facility, school, community-based program, or addiction recovery program). Experience must include:
    • Individual or group counseling.
    • Intake/assessment and treatment planning.
    • Casework and consultation.
    • Focus on establishing ongoing, one-to-one client relationships to maintain recovery and prevent relapse.
    • Conducting group sessions for alcohol/substance abuse treatment.
  • An associate degree (or higher) in an approved field and one year of qualifying experience.
  • A current New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee (CASAC-T) certification and one year of post-certification qualifying experience.
  • A current New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) certification.

  • Anthropology, audiology, child development/family relations, community mental health, chemical dependence administration, correctional studies, counseling/guidance, criminal justice, education, gerontology, health administration, health education, human services, nursing, nutrition, pastoral counseling, psychology, public justice, rehabilitation counseling, religious studies, social work, sociology, special education, speech pathology, therapy (art, dance, drama, music, occupational, physical, recreational), and vocational counseling.

Pay

$53,764–$68,630 per year.
