Work Schedule

  • Day Shift: 0600 - 1800
  • 3 x 12 hour shifts a week

About the Role

Alarm Monitors are responsible for monitoring communications equipment and dispatching assistance as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Train in the proper use of communications equipment including telephone, radio, and alarm signal-receiving systems.
  • Dispatch police, request medical assistance, and contact other emergency services as necessary.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school education or equivalency.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and favorable driving history.
  • One year of general experience demonstrating:
    • Communication experience outside of telephone switchboard operation or communications clerk.
    • Typing skills using teletype, CRT, etc.
    • Professional interaction with the public, government employees, and law enforcement agencies.
    • Reading, understanding, and applying printed procedures, detailed orders, instructions, and training material.
    • Maintaining poise and self-control under stress.
    • Writing clear, concise, and accurate reports and messages.
    • Speaking clearly and distinctly.
  • One year of specialized experience demonstrating:
    • Operation of voice radio circuits.
    • Progressive knowledge of varied communication equipment operation.
    • Operations of personal computer type equipment, including data input and retrieval functions.
    • Handling stressful and/or life-threatening situations similar to those in a police, fire, or EMS environment.
  • In lieu of the above, two years of education above high school may be substituted for specialized experience.

Physical Capabilities

  • Hearing: Unaided or correctable hearing thresholds at 20dB or below in each ear for 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz, and 30dB or below for frequencies up to 3000 Hz.
  • Vision: Monocular or binocular vision, correctable to 20/20 (Snellen) as applicable.
  • Physical Dexterity: Ability to manipulate equipment controls properly and expeditiously, including pushing, pulling, rotating, twisting, controlling devices, inserting and removing plugs and connectors, threading tape machines, inserting, ejecting, removing, and placing computer disks, CDs, DVDs, video and audio tapes, and paper in office appliances and storage containers, fully operating equipment at any reachable level, grasping tightly tube-shaped items, moving about the operations center without collisions, traversing hallways and entering/exiting buildings without assistance.
