About The Role
The AI/ML Engineer (Subject Matter Expert) role at Peraton is a critical position supporting the MODES III program, which assists Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP). The successful candidate will be responsible for architecting, developing, and integrating advanced AI and machine learning capabilities into the MODES III application development efforts. This role involves designing innovative AI/ML-enabled features to enhance application functionality, automate processes, and improve mission outcomes. The engineer will lead the development of models, oversee their training, validation, and deployment, and ensure seamless integration into existing architectures. Collaboration with cross-functional teams including application developers, product owners, and DevSecOps is essential to align AI/ML solutions with operational requirements and security standards. The position is remote, requiring an active Secret clearance, with occasional travel to the National Capital Region (NCR) as needed. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to national security initiatives through cutting-edge AI/ML technologies.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 12 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 10 years with a Master's degree, or 8 years with a PhD. Alternatively, 16 years of experience without a degree or 14 years with an Associate's/AA degree.
- Demonstrated capability within the Cyberspace IT workforce, including industry certifications such as A+ or Network+ or equivalent military/educational training as per DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix.
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Hugging Face transformers, LangChain, RAG toolkits, FAISS, Pinecone, SageMaker, Vertex AI, MLflow, Kubeflow, Terraform, CloudFormation, EKS, GPU EC2, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, AWS Lake Formation, QuickSight, Tableau, Secrets Manager, and KMS.
- Strong understanding of model development, training, validation, and deployment processes.
- Knowledge of security and data handling best practices in government and enterprise environments.
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and integrate AI and machine learning capabilities into the MODES III application platform to improve functionality and automation.
- Lead the design and development of AI/ML-enabled features supporting application development activities.
- Apply machine learning, natural language processing, and automation techniques to enhance decision support and user interaction.
- Oversee the integration of AI/ML components into application architectures, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Establish model development, training, validation, and deployment strategies aligned with Agile development practices.
- Collaborate closely with application developers, product owners, and DevSecOps teams to ensure AI/ML solutions meet functional requirements and release schedules.
- Ensure AI/ML implementations comply with government security, data handling, and ethical use standards.
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on AI/ML approaches within the project team.
