About The Role

As a Staff AI/ML Engineer within the Embodied AI Data Foundations organization at General Motors, you will play a pivotal role in scaling and optimizing the data infrastructure for autonomous vehicle foundation models. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement machine learning solutions that leverage vast datasets—both real and synthetic—to enhance autonomous driving capabilities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design scalable data pipelines, improve model training processes, and deploy advanced AI algorithms that directly impact vehicle safety, reliability, and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Python and PyTorch
  • Experience working with large-scale foundation models and alignment techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to develop applied ML solutions within real-world constraints
  • Strong data processing skills using tools such as NumPy, Pandas, and Apache Spark
  • Experience in deploying machine learning models into production environments
  • Knowledge of robotics or autonomous driving systems (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement advanced machine learning solutions aligned with GM’s autonomous driving objectives
  • Apply techniques such as unsupervised pre-training, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and foundation modeling to solve complex perception and planning problems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy models into onboard and offboard driving systems
  • Contribute to applied research efforts and stay current with advancements in ML frameworks and methodologies
  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and tooling to facilitate rapid model iteration and improvement
  • Drive technical execution from prototyping through to production deployment, documenting best practices and learnings
  • Mentor and support engineers through technical collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
