About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Machine Learning (ML) Engineer to join our Prometheus team within the Embodied AI organization at General Motors. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and deploying offboard machine learning solutions that provide accurate, ground-truth-quality world estimates for multiple partner teams, including onboard model development, simulation, and evaluation. Your work will directly influence the entire autonomous vehicle development lifecycle—from training and validation to testing and safety assurance. As a senior engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape technical strategies, mentor junior engineers, and support the seamless transition of research innovations into scalable onboard ML capabilities, all while continuously enhancing the autonomy stack to meet evolving safety and performance standards.

Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field
- Experience working with large-scale foundation models and alignment methods in real-world systems
- Proficiency in Python and PyTorch
- Experience building and scaling model training pipelines for efficient iteration
- Strong understanding of deploying ML models into production environments
- Demonstrated ability to deliver applied ML solutions within real-world constraints and timelines
- Excellent communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration
- Experience in robotics or autonomous driving systems is preferred
Responsibilities
- Design and implement machine learning solutions aligned with GM’s autonomous driving objectives
- Apply techniques such as unsupervised pre-training, supervised learning, model scaling, and foundation modeling to solve complex problems in object detection, tracking, and classification
- Leverage GM’s extensive datasets to improve model performance, focusing on high-value data for challenging problems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy and serve models at large scale in production environments
- Contribute to applied research efforts, staying current with advancements in ML frameworks and methodologies
- Develop efficient infrastructure, pipelines, and tooling to accelerate model development and iteration
- Lead technical execution from prototyping to deployment, documenting best practices and lessons learned
- Mentor and support engineering colleagues through technical collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
