This examination is being given to fill one vacancy in the Stockton Metropolitan Airport and to establish an eligible list to fill future vacancies. All correspondences will be delivered via e-mail or US Mail.
About the role
This position is responsible for coordinating airport security operations in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Code of Federal Regulations/Transportation Security Administration Title 49, Parts 1540, 1542, and 1544.
Responsibilities
- Apply principles and techniques of airport operations security and administration.
- Interpret and enforce federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to airport security.
- Recognize various aircraft and understand basic operating characteristics.
- Manage airport vegetation control and hazardous materials handling requirements.
- Operate and maintain electronic communication equipment and basic computer hardware/software.
- Respond to emergencies in a calm and professional manner, including operating emergency response vehicles.
- Write operational and investigative reports.
- Perform basic investigative and research techniques.
- Maintain routine records and prepare reports.
- Provide customer service and maintain public relations.
- Follow written and oral instructions accurately.
- Wear required safety equipment and operate a variety of equipment safely.
Requirements
- Knowledge of airport operations security, administration, and pertinent regulations (FAA, TSA, state, and local).
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and ordinances related to airports.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, the public, and other agencies.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and respond calmly under stressful or emergency situations.
- Ability to operate radios, computers, and other office equipment.
- Physical ability to perform duties while wearing required safety equipment.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Mobility: Frequent operation of data entry devices; repetitive motion; sitting, standing, walking for extended periods; driving; occasional running, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, climbing, crawling.
- Lifting: Frequently 5 to 30 lbs; occasional lifting/turning of heavy objects or people.
- Visual: Constant good overall vision, reading/close-up work, color perception, eye/hand coordination; frequent use of depth perception and field/peripheral vision.
- Dexterity: Frequent reaching, grasping, repetitive motion, and writing.
- Hearing/Talking: Frequent hearing of normal speech, use of telephone/radio, talking in person; ability to hear faint sounds.
- Emotional/Psychological: Constant decision-making, concentration, and public contact; dealing with emergency situations; occasional exposure to trauma, grief, death, and hazardous materials.
- Special Requirements: May require working weekends, nights, or overtime; exposure to noise and varied weather conditions.
Pay
$5,518.91 - $6,708.27 per month.
Schedule
Full-time. May require working weekends, nights, or overtime.

- 125 Flexible Benefits Plan: Pre-tax dollars for health-related expenses (Health Flexible Spending Account: $2,550 annual limit with $500 carryover) and dependent care costs (Dependent Care Assistance Plan: $5,000 annual limit).
- Retirement Plan: Covered by the County Retirement Law of 1937 (SJCERA).
- Deferred Compensation: Annual contribution limit of $22,500 (or 100% of includible compensation, whichever is less); $30,000 for individuals age 50 or older. Roth IRA (after-tax) also available.
- Vacation:
- 10 days per year up to 3 years of service
- 15 days after 3 years
- 20 days after 10 years
- 23 days after 20 years
- Holidays: 14 paid holidays per year.
- Sick Leave: 12 working days annually with unlimited accumulation; eligible for 8 hours of administrative leave if leave balance meets criteria.
- Bereavement Leave: 3 days of paid leave for qualifying family members; 2 additional days for death of spouse, domestic partner, parent, or child.
- Merit Salary Increase: Eligible for step increases after 52 weeks (2,080 hours) at each step.
- Educational Reimbursement: Up to $850 per fiscal year for career-related coursework; up to $1,600 per fiscal year for approved 4-year college/university programs.
- Parking Supplemental: Up to $20 per pay period for employees assigned to Downtown Stockton.
- School Activities Leave: Up to 40 hours per year (max 8 hours per month) to participate in children’s school activities.
