About the role
As part of the Aviation Public Safety Group, the Airport Communications Specialist (ACS) facilitates coordination between all airport users, documents critical airport information, and sends notifications to impacted parties. This role ensures safety, compliance, efficiency, and a high level of customer service for everyone engaged with Dallas Love Field airport (DAL).
Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison between the airport and all stakeholders, including customers, tenants, and internal staff. Answer, respond to, and assist callers with questions, inquiries, or concerns; provide information on airport operations, services, and resources; address issues from the surrounding community and neighborhoods.
- Facilitate coordination and communication between Department of Aviation staff for all incidents, events, and requests.
- Maintain and track records for all communications; ensure all situations are documented and reported for proper and safe handling and resolution.
- Use communications technology and systems to send messages to airport stakeholders.
- Input and submit various work orders; ensure accuracy of information entered so work orders are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Respond effectively to alerts and emergency situations; use communication technology to notify all necessary parties and agencies; coordinate communications and information sharing to mitigate the effect of a situation on airport operations; document emergency events in logs and incident reports.
- Perform all other work as needed or assigned.
Requirements
- Two (2) years of experience working in airport operations, emergency management, emergency dispatch, communication centers, tactical operations centers, or airline operations.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid and current Driver’s License.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.
- Proficient in MS Outlook.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of airport regulations, policies, and procedures, particularly 14 CFR 139 and 49 CFR 1542.
- Knowledge of general business management concepts, customer service care practices and principles, and airport and airline operations.
- Strong professional character traits, including active listening, proactivity, initiative, ownership of tasks, responsibility, good judgment, organization, teamwork, personal growth, empathy, and the desire to improve through training and feedback.
- Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to use various equipment and technology, including telecommunication devices, PA systems, computers, phones, and information management software.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong and effective relationships.
- Ability to handle and communicate emergency situations with calmness, professionalism, and skill.
- Ability to keep confidential information private and follow all applicable laws regarding sensitive security information (SSI).
- Ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
- Ability to work in a “closed room” environment and tolerate long periods of sitting or standing.
- Ability to work all shifts, including some overtime, both individually and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Emergency Management, or Communications (may meet minimum qualifications).
- Trade certifications in airport operations and airport management, such as ACE or CM from AAAE, or USAP from ACI.
- Trade certifications in emergency dispatch from APCO, NENA, IAED, or similar.
- TCOLE certification for telecommunications officers.
- Ability to speak Spanish or another foreign language.
- Proficient in MS Office suite.
- Completion of NIMS IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800.
Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $24.39 - $27.71 per hour, with the amount offered dependent upon qualifications.
