About the Role

The Digital Communications & Content Specialist supports the Department of Port Control's communications, marketing, and digital content initiatives. This position assists with the planning, development, production, and distribution of content that supports Cleveland Hopkins International Airport's mission, strategic priorities, programs, projects, and public-facing communications efforts. The role works collaboratively with airport departments, partners, vendors, and stakeholders to gather information and create engaging written, visual, and digital content.

Responsibilities

  • Content Development & Storytelling
    • Research, develop, write, edit, and distribute content for internal and external communications channels.
    • Identify story opportunities and conduct interviews with employees, stakeholders, airport partners, and subject matter experts.
    • Develop engaging content that supports airport initiatives, programs, events, and strategic priorities.
    • Assist with drafting communications materials, website updates, newsletter content, and digital messaging.
  • Photography, Videography & Multimedia Production
    • Capture photography and videography content at airport events, programs, construction projects, and operational activities.
    • Edit and produce professional-quality photos, videos, and multimedia content for digital communications channels.
    • Maintain organized digital asset libraries and assist with content management.
  • Digital Communications & Website Management
    • Support implementation of digital communications strategies and campaigns.
    • Develop, update, and maintain website content to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and brand consistency.
    • Monitor digital content performance and recommend improvements based on engagement and analytics.
    • Assist with content publishing and maintenance across digital platforms.
  • Newsletter Development & Internal Communications
    • Support development of internal and external newsletters from concept through publication.
    • Gather information, conduct interviews, and draft newsletter articles and feature stories.
    • Review content for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and alignment with airport priorities.
    • Coordinate with departments to collect timely content and updates.
  • Social Media & Agency Coordination
    • Serve as an internal point of contact for social media and digital marketing initiatives.
    • Coordinate content needs, approvals, and information gathering across departments.
    • Review agency-developed content including social media posts, graphics, videos, and content calendars.
    • Monitor campaign performance and assist with reporting and recommendations for improvement.
  • Stakeholder & Event Support
    • Support press events, special events, airport initiatives, and community engagement activities.
    • Coordinate with internal departments, vendors, and external partners to gather information and support communications needs.
    • Assist with communications planning and content development for major airport projects and programs.
  • Administrative & Project Support
    • Maintain content calendars, project tracking documents, and communications records.
    • Assist with vendor coordination, content approvals, and project deadlines.
    • Support communications reporting, analytics tracking, and performance measurement.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Foster collaborative working relationships across airport departments and external partners.
    • Support a positive, innovative, and customer-focused communications environment.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of communications processes, tools, and content development practices.
  • General Duties
    • Plan, assign, supervise, and review activities of subordinate personnel.
    • Monitor the project or program's operating budget and assist in the annual preparation of same.
    • Design, implement, and monitor procedures utilized in program evaluation.
    • Develop and secure commitments from other City departments and agencies to provide services to program participants.
    • Provide technical assistance or review program policies and procedures.
    • Maintain current information and oversee the preparation of project status reports.
    • Prepare financial and narrative reports and program applications.
    • Communicate project/program status and information to municipal officials and/or public and private entities.
    • May supervise employees assigned to the respective project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Media, or a closely related field (preferred). Alternatively, a degree in Business or Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of progressively responsible professional experience in digital communications, content development, photography, videography, website management, social media coordination, or related areas.
  • Two years of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in program administration.
  • Must be able to lift and carry thirty (30) pounds.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License.
  • Must successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) 10-year fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check, employment background check, and Security Threat Assessment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Availability for on-call support and occasional after-hours work for critical system maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with or managing third-party communications, marketing, or digital agencies.
  • Experience developing content for websites, newsletters, social media platforms, and internal communications channels.
  • Strong writing, editing, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience with web content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal.
  • Knowledge of ADA web accessibility standards and digital content best practices.

Skills

  • Photography and videography content capture and production.
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects).
  • Website content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, or similar platforms).
  • Social media management and analytics platforms (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, or similar tools).
  • Digital content editing, publishing, and multimedia production.
  • Basic knowledge of web accessibility standards and HTML (preferred).
