About the role

The Airport Communications Center Operator is assigned to the Airport Communications Center (ACC), a 24/7 operation serving as the central communications point for the airport community.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate multiple computer systems, including the access control system, CCTV security cameras, two-way radios, and mass notification system.
  • Assist in control of daily airport operations and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local airport safety and security regulations.
  • Disseminate airport operations information and dispatch personnel during emergencies (e.g., aircraft accidents, bomb threats, civil disturbances, air piracy, structural fires, radiological incidents, natural disasters, fire alarms, and personal injuries).
  • Monitor security and fire alarm systems; retrieve and relay weather information.
  • Update airport identification access badges and vehicle permits.
  • Maintain daily dispatch logs and perform light clerical work.
  • Utilize NCIC to verify data on warrants/wants for police personnel.
  • React quickly and calmly in emergency situations; transmit messages clearly and accurately via telephone and radio.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three years of general office experience or one year of experience as a security surveillance operator.
  • Attention to detail to avoid errors; ability to hear, speak clearly, and see with corrected vision.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to finger, handle, or feel objects and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception (corrective lenses permitted).
  • Job must be performed with or without accommodations.

Work Environment

  • May be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Primarily indoors monitoring security cameras and acting as dispatch for Airport Security personnel.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Schedule

  • Shift work: rotating days, swing, and graveyard shifts.
  • Work on holidays and varying days off.
