Airframe and Power plant Instructor

Johnson College is seeking an Airframe and Powerplant Instructor to join the Aviation Technology program. The instructor will conduct technical training classes as part of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) certified 147 Maintenance Program, using the FAA Mechanics Airman Certification Standard (ACS) as the curriculum foundation. The role includes classroom presentations and hands-on activities.

Responsibilities

• Compile and maintain student grades, attendance records, and other paperwork.
• Follow and maintain daily lesson plans in compliance with Part 147 certification.
• Provide instruction based on FAA-published data, including handbooks, AC's, and AD's.
• Comply with Johnson College Part 147 Operation Specifications Manual.
• Administer and grade tests and lab projects required for the course of instruction.
• Maintain lab equipment and instructional aids.
• Assist other instructors with labs as necessary.
• Demonstrate knowledge of tools, equipment, skills, and resources used in the field, including hands-on applications with students.
• Ensure students comply with program policies and procedures.
• Maintain a safe learning environment within the program area.
• Submit student book, tool kit, and parts information to the Program Director.
• Provide student advisement and assistance when necessary.
• Promote the program and assist with procurement of educational resources and equipment.
• Participate in College activities and events.
• Serve as an active member of assigned campus committee(s).
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant Certificate (must have either airframe or powerplant for consideration).
• Minimum of 4 years of practical experience in Aviation.
• Classroom, professional learning, or mentoring experience preferred.
• Required to stand, walk, use hands to lift, handle, or feel, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Must frequently lift and/or balance up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Valid driver's license.

Skills

• Ability to effectively present material to students and respond to questions.
• Familiarity with topics required by the FAA Mechanics ACS.
• Familiarity with tools and procedures typically encountered in an aircraft maintenance facility.
• Knowledge of current FAA regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
• Strong communication and managerial skills.
• Expertise in the program area and ability to teach.

Schedule

Full-time position from mid-August to mid-May, with a start date at the end of August for the academic year.
