Aircraft Worker, Electrician
About the role
The Aircraft Worker performs repairs to aircraft following orders of higher grade technicians. They assist in troubleshooting malfunctions in various aircraft systems, including but not limited to:
- Aircraft structure
- Landing gear
- Flight surfaces and controls
- Anti-icing systems
- Pneumatic systems
- Engines
- Auxiliary Power Units (APU)
- Ventilation and heating systems
Responsibilities
This mechanic performs a variety of duties, including:
- Progressive, phase, periodic, and other hourly, conditional or calendar inspections
- Examine reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks
- Listen to operating engines to detect and diagnose malfunctions
- Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments
- Inspect jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks
- Test engine operation using testing equipment such as ignition analyzers, compression checkers, distributor timers, ammeters, and Jet Calibration (Jetcal) testers to locate sources of malfunction
- Replace or repair worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine-mounted gearboxes using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment
- Remove engines from aircraft using hoists or forklift trucks, disassemble and inspect parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repair or replace defective engine parts before reassembling and installing engines in aircraft
- Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories
- Perform preflight, through-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections
- Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, such as flushing crankcases, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes
- Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft
- Enter descriptions of work performed in maintenance records and verify work was performed satisfactorily
- Specialize in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies
- Specialize in engine repair
Requirements
Physical ability to perform all assigned duties is required. Must be physically able to stand, climb, bend, stoop, and lift heavy objects. Must have a valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license (if North Carolina resident).
Qualifications
Must have completed Navy Aviation Electrician Technician AE “A” School. Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory.
Skills
Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals is required.

Pay
The hourly rate for this position is $34.86 per hour. Plus $7.80 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, for Health & Welfare.
Schedule
Shift work and detachments are required.
