Amentum is seeking a qualified Aircraft Worker to support U.S. Naval Air Station maintenance operations at NAS Whidbey Island.

About the role

The Aircraft Worker performs pre/post-operational checks, fueling, and operation of support equipment, including conditional/scheduled inspections and periodic maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Make repairs to aircraft following orders of higher-grade workers.
  • Remove, clean, reinstall, or replace defective parts, accessories, and components (e.g., worn gaskets, couplings, fittings, actuators, accumulators, gauges, corroded fuel/oil lines, cable pulleys, spark plug cables, landing lights) using hand tools.
  • Make adjustments and settings such as cable tension and seat movement.
  • Obtain standard parts (e.g., fuel/oil line connections, cable linkage, spark plug cables) by referring to parts manuals or comparing with samples.
  • Service engines and aircraft components at line stations, making repairs short of overhaul to maintain safe operating condition.
  • Perform pre-flight and recovery tasks (pre-positioning support equipment, aircraft start-up), launch, and aircraft directing to support daily flight schedules.
  • Conduct Daily/Turnaround, Conditional, Special Inspections, and maintenance in accordance with Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRC) and NAVAIR technical manuals.
  • Check aircraft for tools or foreign objects that could pose risks to aircraft or aircrew.
  • Perform pre/post-op checks, fueling, and operation of support equipment (e.g., ladders, tie-downs, chocks).
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned or directed by local directives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent training/experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Three years of recent, related experience in the field consistent with contract/delivery order requirements.
  • An A&P license may substitute for three years of experience.
  • F/A-18E/F and/or EA-18G qualified Plane Captain experience required for assignment as a Line Aircraft Worker.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and meet physical/medical examination requirements for daily tasks.
  • U.S. citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization.
  • Position requires travel.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in shop environments, aircraft hangars, flight lines, and shipboard locations with moderate lighting, heating, and ventilation.
  • Exposure to extreme outdoor weather, disagreeable fumes, cuts, bruises, moving vehicles (forklifts, sweepers, tow vehicles, aircraft), and hazards.
  • May work in noisy, dusty, or dirty areas and be exposed to heat, cold, wind, or other discomforts.
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; occasional sitting, climbing, or balancing.
  • Frequent lifting of 40–45 pounds; occasional lifting of over 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, vibration, wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather, extreme cold, and electrical shock risks.
  • Use of Fall Protection equipment and PPE required.
  • Noise levels in hangars, flight lines, and shipboard environments are typically loud.

Pay

Hourly rate set by Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA):

  • Current: $38.28/hour
  • On or around 1/1/2027: $39.43/hour

    • 144 hours for 0–5 years of service
    • 184 hours for 5–10 years of service
    • 224 hours for 10–15 years of service
