About the role
The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and painting aircraft wings and structural components. Duties include reading and interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, and paint specifications; preparing aircraft wing surfaces for painting; applying chemical paint strippers and removing coatings; masking, unmasking, and re-masking aircraft components; applying fillers, sealants, and Alodine treatments; mixing and applying primers, base coats, and topcoats; performing paint touch-ups and cosmetic repairs; inspecting painted surfaces for defects; and completing any required rework.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and paint specifications to determine required tasks.
- Prepare aircraft wing surfaces for painting by cleaning, stripping, sanding, grinding, buffing, and masking.
- Apply chemical paint strippers and remove coatings using approved methods and equipment.
- Mask, unmask, and re-mask aircraft components to protect sensitive surfaces during the painting process.
- Apply fillers, sealants, and Alodine treatments as required prior to painting.
- Mix and apply primers, base coats, and topcoats using spray equipment in accordance with aerospace specifications.
- Perform paint touch-ups and cosmetic repairs to ensure a high-quality finish.
- Inspect painted surfaces for defects and complete any required rework.
- Document completed work in accordance with company procedures and quality standards.
- Follow all environmental, health, and safety regulations, including proper use of PPE and hazardous materials.
- Absorb and assist with moving aircraft and supporting production activities as needed.
- Maintain painting equipment and ensure a clean and organized work area.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of aircraft painting experience in an aerospace manufacturing or MRO environment.
- Experience preparing and painting aircraft wings, wing assemblies, or structural aircraft components.
- Experience with: Surface preparation, Chemical paint stripping, Sanding, grinding, and buffing, Masking and demasking, Primer and topcoat application, Alodine application, Paint touch-ups and finishing.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documents, and customer specifications.
- Experience operating spray equipment and painting tools.
- Ability to operate powered lifts and work at heights when required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments.
