About the role

Aircraft Mechanic III (LUH72) performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications, and troubleshooting of complex aircraft systems. Duties include inspecting aircraft, launching and recovering aircraft, performing operational checks, maintaining aircraft appearance, operating ground support equipment, and completing maintenance documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs and modifications of complex aircraft systems.
  • Inspects aircraft for preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, and phase inspections.
  • Launches and recovers aircraft as required.
  • Operates all associated ground support equipment and uses hand tools, special tools, and fixtures applicable to aircraft.
  • Maintains aircraft appearance and cleanliness.
  • Completes maintenance actions in aircraft records/forms and completes associated CAMS entries.
  • Performs other qualified duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
  • Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Working knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
  • Working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks & records, military technical publications, and the Army's Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System, ULLSAE.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal and structural modification and repair.
  • Ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as cable tensiometers.
  • Valid up-to-date A&P license.
  • Five years aviation maintenance experience, five years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned MDS.
  • Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Owns tools/toolbox.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform duties of the job including, but not limited to, standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance and work in small spaces, ladder work and working at heights at or above 40 feet is required.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the use of aircraft hand tools, special tools, and test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and portable firefighting equipment.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform duties of the job including, but not limited to, standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance and work in small spaces, ladder work and working at heights at or above 40 feet is required.
